Kent Head Coach Jimmy Adams has paid tribute to West Indian batsman Runako Morton who was tragically killed in a car accident.
The 33 year old died in the accident in Trinidad on Sunday night with his vehicle seemingly losing control and hitting a utility pole.
Morton played in 15 Tests and 56 One-day internationals for the West Indies and Adams was keen to pay tribute to the talented batsman:
“It’s very sad news, It’s always a bit of a shock when somebody that young passes away. It was very unfortunate circumstances and I know the entire cricketing community, both in the Caribbean and around the world would be very upset and we can only wish his family strength in this time when they have lost a husband, a father.”
“My condolences go out to all his family in Nevis.”
Although Adams’ and Morton’s careers didn’t overlap, the Kent Head Coach knew him well enough to know he will be sorely missed:
“I knew him well enough to enjoy spending time around him. He was full of life, very loyal and a talented young man.”
“He was very determined. I was a similar type in that I wasn’t the most talented of players, but he worked so hard with what he had and it was good that he went on to play international cricket.”
“It’s sad to know that he is gone.”
Everyone at Kent Sports News would like to join Jimmy in paying our respects to one of the cricketing family.
